Tire Compounds :
- Soft − Hard
- Softer tires provide more traction. Harder tires last longer.
- Soft compound is soft enough for you to dig into with your fingernail.
Spec Tires :
- Many series and local tracks require cars to run a "Spec Tire", typically on the right rear of the car.
- Usually a harder compound tire.
- Spec Tire rules are intened to save teams money.
- Many teams competing at the top levels have the resources to install a new tire each time the car hits the track, while many saller teams run the same tires for several nights.
- Spec tires are a hard compound tire. They can often be used for several events.
- Teams get tires cheaper since vendors only have to supply one tire instead of four sizes in various compounds.
- You will still burn the blocks off of a spec tire during the A-Main on a black, dry slick race track.
- The Hoosier DT3 seems to be the most popular Spec Tire for non winged sprints. It's what we run.
- A DT3 costs between $140 and $160 USD.
